Meeting My Golf Girlfriend, Susanna

A year ago (roughly), I met Susanna who would change my perspective on life in the most unexpected way. We bonded over our shared love for golf, and it wasn't long before she invited me and a couple of golf girlfriends to a golf tournament her family was organizing. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it but I was also curious about the cause behind it. When I asked her more about it, I was not prepared for the profound journey of learning that would follow.

Discovering Cavernous Malformation

Susanna, explained that the tournament was to raise funds and awareness for cavernous malformation, a condition I knew very little about. For those who are as unfamiliar as I was, cavernous malformation (or cerebral cavernous malformation) is a type of blood vessel abnormality in the brain or spinal cord. These malformations consist of clusters of dilated blood vessels that can cause a range of neurological symptoms, including seizures, headaches, and even hemorrhages.

As we talked, I could see how important this cause was to her and her family. As there are several family members affected by cavernous malformation, and it had a significant impact on their lives. This conversation wasn't just about learning a medical term; it was about understanding the struggles and hopes of someone I cared about.

Raising Awareness and Funds

Susanna kindly agreed to record our conversation to share her story and the importance of raising awareness about this condition. It's crucial for people to know how their donations can make a difference. The funds raised from the golf tournament would go towards research, support for affected families, and raising general awareness to help improve the quality of life for those living with cavernous malformation.

Why Awareness Matters

Learning about cavernous malformation and the challenges it brings has been a humbling experience. It opened my eyes to the importance of supporting medical research and understanding the personal stories behind these causes. It’s not just about donating money; it's about being part of a community that strives to make a difference.

Through this experience, I've realized that personal growth often comes from stepping outside of our own world and learning about the struggles and passions of others. Supporting causes like cavernous malformation not only helps those directly affected but also enriches our lives with empathy and understanding.

How You Can Help

If you’re moved by this story and want to contribute, we have a link to the donation page where you can learn more about cavernous malformation and see how your contributions will be used. Every little bit helps, and together, we can support the research and families who need it most.

Meeting Susanna and learning about cavernous malformation has been an eye-opening experience. It’s a reminder of the power of community and the impact we can have when we come together for a cause. I encourage everyone to take a moment to learn about these important issues and consider how they can contribute to making a positive change in the world.

By sharing our conversation and this journey, I hope to inspire others to take an active interest in the causes that matter to their loved ones. It’s through these connections and efforts that we can truly make a difference.
